I've eaten here one and half times. Once the food was good for a Mexican suburb restaurant , so when I was craving Mexican again I decided to go back. Big mistake. I ordered cheese enchiladas, and my husband ordered carne Asada. When I brought the carry out home mine was filled with meat , he had barely any meat and no tortillas. I called to let them know and lady who answered the phone stated bring the entire order back because I accidentally placed someone else's guacamole order in your bag. There was no guacamole in my bag . I brought the bag back . Without the guacamole (I never seen this guacamole) she kept insisting I had the guacamole " I placed it in your bag , my cook saw me" on and on . I was so frustrated I asked for a refund . I DIDNT STEAL GUACAMOLE . Overall the food is decent , small portions, horrible customer service. We went the the Mexican grocery store down the road and had better food, larger portions and way better customer service

The best al pastor tacos and delicious sopes. Stay away from the red sauce, since it's on fire! Quick service and it was definitely a great first experience, so I'll be back for more authentic Mexican food.

I know what it feels like to crave real Mexican food and feel disappointed afterwards because it wasn't what you expected. I've ate here a few time with friends and it's one of the best authentic Mexican food you'll have.

Hidden gem. Best Mexican restaurant in the Northwest suburbs, handsdown in our family's opinion. I'm boring and can't help but order the chicken tacos over and over again. Just something about the way they cook the chicken in this red sauce that makes it taste oh so good. My husband gets everything from the steak fajitas to this steak soup. We also buy a lot of the mango soda. We take out from Mi Restaurant at least weekly!

Came in for takeout before an evening meeting. The place was empty although it was during rush hour so maybe too early to tell. I have to say, the food was not great. The al pastor was somehow both greasy AND dry. The beans had very little flavor, I had to salt them to make them palatable. My girls ate the rice though and my older one liked her carne asada well enough. If the other reviewers are right, it sounds like there's been a management or ownership change and the food has gone downhill. Maybe it was just the night I went though. For their sake, lets hope so. I'd really like to have a good Mexican place close to home. I'd recommend going to Las Asadas over by the original McDonald's for really great food, even if it's a divey atmosphere.

Nice little clean spot but the food is great! Tacos are meaty and tasty. They also serve beer so that is great!

I've been coming here since it opened never had a problem until today. Seems management has changed or recipes have been downgraded. I always get the carne asada dinner and it's always good. They have since cut down the size of their steak in half, also guacamole no longer is included (even though the menu still lists it as part of the $12 dinner). The server was not busy but still delayed in bringing basic things like a lime for our beers or napkins! Then my friend orders a vegetarian torta and gets a bread with lettuce and two think slices of tomato! My girlfriend walked out and waited in the car when I asked for the check, they took 20 minutes to bring us a check. I'm really disappointed as this was the place my gf an I came to when we wanted decent Mexican food. Now I have to find a different spot. ;(

My husband and I moved to Mt. Prospect in September. We have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant ever since. Spotted this place a couple of times and finally decided to try there. Are we glad we did. Food is excellent, traditional, authentic Mexican food. Very clean and friendly staff. This is definitely our "go to" Mexican restaurant. They even have an outdoor venue albeit small, but we are looking forward to warmer weather and sitting outside to enjoy their wonderful cuisine.

Best Mexican restaurant in the northwest suburbs, it's a bit small but the food is amazing. I always order the barbacoa taco dinner and it never fails to amaze me. Very authentic mexican food, plus the waitresses there are always fast and friendly.

This quaint, Mexican restaurant serves authentic and quality food. I've been here twice in 1 week because it's that good. They do have awesome specials, but I chose my platters based on the pictures I saw in the menu. Everything looks and sounds so delicious. The first time I came here, I ordered #5. It was the Tampiquena dish, which consisted of: beans, rice, steak, guacamole, enchilada, and homemade corn/flour tortillas garnished with 2 jalapeños, tomato, lettuce, cucumbers, and orange slices. Two days later, I had the #3 dish which was just as tasty. Came with the same items as above, but no enchilada and the steak was much thinner. They do serve you freshly baked tortilla chips with a spicy, green salsa and 2 condiment containers of hot sauce once you're seated. The guacamole and chips dish was also fantastic. You can definitely tell it was made fresh and the cilantro is a nice touch to the dish. The employees are very friendly and accommodating. Once you enter, you can seat yourself and the waitress greets you with menus. Our waitress was able to split our bill 4 ways even though we forgot to tell her we wanted individual checks prior to our meal. The space is comfortable and clean. They play Spanish music in the background, which makes the experience great. Bathrooms are clean and well kept. Overall, this restaurant is a hidden gem in the northwest suburbs and I'm glad they are close by. I'd definitely frequent this place a couple of times a month or even more! I'd give this place 100 stars if I could.

I love this place! Is it fancy? No. It's a tiny little place with maybe 8 tables or so. Plastic covered tablecloths over pretty fabric. Very clean. Never sticky. The 2nd time I was here, I was recognized as a regular. To me that means a lot. Ive never had anything here but delicious food at ridiculously low prices. The chicken tacos and burritos are always moist and quite flavorful, but I'm getting ahead of myself here. When you sit down, you get a basket of tortilla chips and 3 kinds of sauces. It's all good. My kids and I can finish off a basket in just a few minutes. My boys love that they can get a Jarritos. They even have it in grapefruit! I've never seen that. The waitress/cashier is friendly, helpful, and sweet. She always refills my water with a smile. I've tried many things here. I have never been disappointed. They deliver top notch food at prices I can afford (less than $20 for me and 2 teen age sons). And they do have tacos for $1 on Sundays. Indeed, there is a special everyday.

I have been going to this place for 10 or more years. It's really the only good taqueria in Mt. Prospect. Is it the best in the area? Maybe not but it is consistantly tasty, friendlier than many and quite clean. A little tacky but the food is why I go. I will not order at a taqueria that does not offer lingua, which makes up the worlds best taco (IMHO. This is a sign of authenticity for me. And it can be done badly, but not here. Always delicious, tender and juicy. My standard order in a taco stand like this is a chorizo burrito w/o rice + extra letttuce and 2 lingua tacos. It is always done just right at this place. The name has changed from time to time and it was closed for at least six months last year; but has reopened with the same great quality and service.

I too (like the other reviewer), found this place by accident. But I'm glad I did. Clean restaurant. Friendly staff. Good quality. Good taste. Low price's. Quiet atmosphere. Need I say more? Probably not. But sO will say: I'll be back :)

Clean, friendly, fresh and dull. Good hand made tortillas. Bland beans, rice, chicken milanesa. Very, very expensive for the portions.

My parents told me about this place so we decided to try it out. I am soo glad we did! The chips and salsa are pretty good. The salsa was pretty spicy. We ordered 4 steak tacos, steak burrito, and a torta de milanesa. None of then disappointed! We will be back again. They have $1 tacos on Sunday!

We have been looking for a good area Mexican carryout place for a while now, and with MI we have found what we've been looking for. We have been by this place so many times without walking in -- what a mistake on our part. While this place is not much to look at, the food is great. It easily meets and exceeds the quality of Mexican food in other restaurants where you might pay twice as much. It is not "fast food" for sure, so if you're looking for a rush in rush out, this is not the place. But if you're looking for quick, fresh, quality Mexican food at a great price, definitely try this place out! We will definitely be regulars.

This place is awesome! I can't even say enough about the food. I typically order a meal with chicken and I have had both the quesadillas and the enchiladas (green) - both were FANTASTIC. It is a great little restaurant with very friendly people and the food is delicious!!

I have had a hard time finding GOOD AUTHENTIC Mexican food in the NW burbs. You can find authentic, but the quality is sub-par. Just down the street from our house, this new place opened a few days ago. I'm a big supporter of local business, so I had to check it out. The restaurant has nice improvements compared to the restaurant that was there before. Better than the scenery is the food! QUALITY, AUTHENTIC Mexican food, at last! We had an asada (steak) burrito and an asada taco dinner. The steak has a very tasty, well charred taste. Unlike the other restaurants in the vicinity (El Famous Burrito for one) the asada is not overly fatty, not salty, and not greasy. I was impressed on the first bite! The portions are plenty. The price was surprisingly cheap too! 3 steak taco dinner, rice and beans for $5.99. Steak burrito with plenty of meat for $5.50! Size up to that Chipotle! The staff were polite, young, and energetic. The menu is also authentic, en espanol! If you can't read spanish, the staff were ready to explain everything. Only negative comment is the menu is a bit small right now, but for a restaurant only open for 5 days, I'd give them a break. Bottom line -- every bite we took was delicious and we will be going back soon!

Do NOT eat here! The food was awful! I ordered chicken fajitas and the chicken was dry and cold, in fact all that should have been hot was cold. The person I went with ordered the skirt steak and she said it was like chewing leather. This is the worse Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Not to mention (but I will) where we were sitting (the area is very small and tight) you could see under the "curtain" type drape thing they used instead of a door to separate the kitchen from the dining area. On the floor in the kitchen there were many large plastic cups half filled with liquid ?? pop?? water?? who knows! And the floor was disgusting! Unfortunately I waisted my money, time and tummy space on this place. MY BAD for not reading reviews before going here. The only thing that made me come was a coupon I had. Ohh..just another tid bit of info... the gal I was with ended up with diarrhea. Now isn't that crappy! No pun intended. Ohh...and the homemade guacamole was real bad! I'm not mexican and I make great guacamole-not rocket science! They added way too much salt and way too much cilantro. I just can't say a good word about this place!!

Ordered a steak burrito w/ beans, cheese and sour cream. Received a steak burrito with cheese. There was a buzz about this place at work and I was in the mood for a burrito so I decided to try it and it didn't hit the spot. The steak was juicy but under seasoned and the fact they forgot to put on two toppings was a bummer. The red and green sauce were average. I was quoted 15 minutes for my meal to be ready and it took 25 minutes so I waited for 10 minutes which eats into the half hour lunch I get. There was only one chef and one waitress/counter person so it was pretty hectic in there. I'd try Mi Restaurant one more time but overall a forgettable and dissapointing meal.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
